N-Power: Every Successful Batch C Applicant Should Be Paid N720,000 At Once (Opinion)
It is no longer new to everyone that the youth empowerment and poverty alleviation scheme established by the federal government few years ago is usually for a duration of two years for every batch. After the expiration of the period, the batch is dissolved and gives way for new applicants. After due screening, each and every successful applicant is then absorbed into their desired N-Power categories, such as N-Power teach, N-Power Agro, N-Power creative, etc.
Moreover, every N-Power beneficiary earns a token of N30,000. A sum that will be paid to them monthly for two years (24 months). If I may ask, what would N30,000 do in people's lives? It is not even enough to cover transport costs talk less of feeding in a whole month. We are talking of about 30 days here. For instance, if N30,000 is spread over 30 days, we would have N1,000 per day. Tell me, can N1,000 cover transport and feeding costs in a day?
If the federal government truly want to empower Nigerian youths and alleviate poverty as they purported, they should stop paying youths the sum of N30,000 monthly for two years. The federal government should pay a lump sum of N720,000 to each and every successful applicant instead, which is N30,000 times 24 months. This would be much more appreciated by Nigerian youths, in my opinion. If they are paid this lump sum, they would be able to start a worthy business that would better their lives forever.
Come to think of it, the federal government would also benefit from this idea in that lots of tax revenue would be derived from those businesses in the long run.
This is what the federal government should do instead of wasting people's time. What would even become of those N-Power beneficiaries after the two years? Nothing.
